I have 24GB as in 2x8 + 2x4 for quad channel. X79-Deluxe guide says to install in A1, B1, D1 + C1 with four sticks, but does it make any difference where I install the 8GBs and 4GBs?

I was thinking 8GB in A1, 4GB in B1, 8GB in D1 and 4GB in C1.

Main:  1650 v2   @ 4,6GHz   -   X79 Deluxe                -   GTX 1080 @ 2000MHz   -   24GB DDR3 @ 2400MHz / CL10

Side:   i7-4790K @ 4,5GHz   -   Maximus 7 Hero        -   GTX 1070 @ 2114MHz    -  16GB DDR3 @ 2666MHz / CL12

it could only run in single channel mode if it works at all mixing ram is a craps shoot it could just error with your miss match run one or the other and ram has to be labeled quad channel to work in quad

They are the exactly same modules. 2400MHz 11-13-14, just in different configurations with two being 8GB and two being 4GB...

doesn't mean it will work man its a odd thing about ram it gets along or it doesn't and being 2 different volumes some times makes a difference try it worst thing is it will hang up on ram and you have to take some out or run it in a different speed or configuration.
