Hello,

its probably a stupid question...

but I've got a Microsoft surface book 2 15' which has a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 connector, (5Gbps)

I also have a Caldigit dock (http://a.co/4eZ3OVE)

which is  thunderbolt 3 dock... (I know) but it works fine for (60W) charging, (1x 2560x1080) display, (7.1) audio, (1gbs) ethernet and usb peripherals (portable ssd, mouse and keyboard)

Now my problem is the thunderbold cable..

so in the box came a 0.5m(or 1.6ft) thuderbolt cable.. and its way to short for my use

now i can upgrade to a 2m(or 6.6ft) thunderbolt cable, but its around 60/80 euro's

So my question is can I use a (cheaper) USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 cable to do the same thing??? or will I run into problems?

If just for charging I don't see why not. Make sure the cable is up to spec and can handle the wattage.
