Next Upgrade

Hi All,

 

I am curious as to what my next upgrade should be. - ie What is my bottleneck and what would give me most "bang for buck". - Should I maybe simply just add another gpu?

 

1. Budget & Location

High - South Africa

 

2. Aim

This will be used ONLY for gaming. - I play FPS and such. Batman Arkham Knight is somewhere in there as well. Injustice 2 etc.

 

3. Monitors

Running one monitor - Asus ROG Swift PG279Q - 2560x1440

It's G-Sync so need to stay in the green camp

 

4. Peripherals

All good on Mouse & KB.

OS dependent on what gets upgraded

 

5. Why are you upgrading?

I find that some of my games have some stutter at times. I want to play at full detail level with no issues.

 

My current PC Specs:

Asus Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac)

16GB DDR3 (1600)

i7-4790K

SSD (Samsung) for OS

Storage - 7200RPM - 2T

Graphics : Galax Geforce 1080 (NOT TI) HOF Edition

Have you done checks on your thermals? Could be that you are getting some throttling. Might do to use HWInfo or another prog to check temps, and if you are hitting throttle temps the checking your cooling solutions, and possibly checking/replacing thermal compound you are currently using.

one what is your specific budget and currency eg £200 gbp , $300 usd 

but as you have a 1080 that is probably not the problem but you could try troubleshooting 

and see what result that brings

 

but i would upgrade your cpu and motherboard first and then your gpu 

 

i say that as you are using an older i7-4790k and no its not a bad cpu but i would make an upgrade to 8th gen cpus if its in your budget for an extra boost in gaming performance.

 

if you want to upgrade the gpu i would wait until the gtx 11 series comes out and get a 1080ti when the price drops or 1180 when its out
