Looking for audiophile grade headphones, know nothing about sound

BluenosedMarsh

I'm looking for audiophile grade headphones that I can use with my phone and PC. So, yes, I'd be using them in public and in my home. Anything under 200 dollars would do. Go.

Also, watch this:

"M. Aronnax." replied the Canadian, "your arguments are rotten at the foundation. You speak in the future, 'We shall be there! we shall be here!' I speak in the present, 'We are here, and we must profit by it.'"

...this is not really relevant at all to the thread.

I was responding mostly to the "Know nothing about sound" aspect of the post, because the info in that video might be useful when choosing headphones.

if you know nothing about sound.. they'll go to waste. Because "audiophiles" commonly like to take placebos and trip out on them.

Does anyone even use PCIe SSDs?

Have you watched it yourself? The video is absolutely useless in all regards to this thread

I find the best way to counteract this is if people gradually upgrade their equipment rather than jumping from Ipod eardicks to HD800's

Also consider the ATH M50s if you still would like to look somewhat fashionable.

Well, somewhat MORE fashionable, they're still headphones for crying out loud, not a headnecklace.

and Shure SRH 840 too

if you're looking for more of dat fashin and bump bump bass I think those Sony X /MDRX10 headphones might be worth looking at

they seem to be kind of like beats but a little bit less toolbaggy, down to a tolerable level. You can find them dirt cheap too.

The question is, have you watched it? It's perfectly relevant, for the said reason that it clears up misconceptions when choosing headphones, which might be helpful since they know nothing about sound and want to get headphones. I don't see how that video was unrelated at all.

They said nothing about headphones other than to show of a tiny pile of them.

The entire video was about headphones. And their misconceptions. And things to look at when buying.

That looks awfully fancy.

Within the first 10 seconds Logan buries a sound card and there's a sound card on the thumbnail

Even though I watched it, to me it seemed to be a video about sound cards, but it must have just been me under a false interpretation. Hopefully I was watching the correct video.

Apologies.  :)

Oh, I see. In that case, I'm sorry as well, I just thought you somehow were missing the point, and I was acting on that notion.

Whoa, this thread really blew up. First, I'd just like to say thanks for all the info, and second, I'd like to say that I still don't know what to get. I've tried my friend's Studio Beats, and they sound good, but I don't want to dump 300 dollars into something that's way overpriced.

what did you like about the beats?  what didn't you like?

I liked the bassy feel of them, even though I'm not a hip hop head. They also sounded really loud. The only thing keeping me from buying beats is the price tag and the social stigma that goes along with them.

may i suggest going to a place that has lots of headphones on display for the public to try and go through all the different ones they have to offer because without trying any of them you will never be able to pick out which area etc of each headphone you like an dislike about the sound quality / clearness /  etc etc....

The Custom One Pro and ATH M50s are your best bets then
