16 gb g skill 3000mhz rgb

custom loop (2x 240 rad + 1 ek d5 pump)

I want to oc my 8700k to 5.2 on 1.39v

ans push my card into the 2050-2100 area

Which I know booth can do (test them in friend pc before put them in mine)

Is it safe with my Corsair cx750m (I added a pic of him)

Friend of of mine told me that I suppose to have at least 1000w for that demeaned. And it sound bit wired to me,

Your friend is a knuckle head.   You don't even need a 1000W PSU for TWO 1080 Ti's.  :D

And your CX750M should be fine.

He already owns the CX750M.  Should be fine.

Anything over 550w on a good quality PSU will be fine for OC (see my build below). 1000w for that build would be overkill.

i draw almost 550 watts, and i only have a 8600k and a 1070. you at least need 650 watts for some headroom.5b58a38b82731_Screenshotfrom2018-07-2512-20-39.png.142eaa42bfef9071c66987fc9f9f150f.png

No, you don't. To see exactly how wrong you are, get a wattmeter. Alternatively, look at how much power Anandtech's overclocked X79 4960X and 1080 Ti draws, and compare it to the system you have there.

You're daft.  LOL!

Did you actually MEASURE your power consumption or are ASSUMING what it is based on some stupid calculator that's engineered to convince you to buy a PSU that's two times more than you need so Cooler Master can make more money?!?!  LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!

I mean, it says my PC should need a 554w PSU, but I run a cx500 PSU for the last 5 years with OC on both CPU and GPU without issue. You don't need as much power as people think.

You sure mine is ok? Even in that extreme oc I mentioned?

I looked into one of thoose online sites for psu requirements and it sayes I need *1200w*

Ofcurse if it’s not very needed I won’t buy a all new psu just to get another 750 from higer tier, if mine is enough, I want to spend as little as I can cause the pc itself was very expensive

Yes. Extreme OC is with liquid nitrogen, which I really doubt you'll do. With the standard liquid cooling, it's absolutely plenty. Same as 550-650W, which would also be plenty.

If he was doing LNC, I wouldn't think he'd be here asking for advice.  :D

stop using such bullshit Web crap and get a powermeter!

Those things got thrown at you!
I've paid either 17 or 19€ or so - for TWO!

Getting a Powermeter and looking at the power consumption will enlighten you!

You're doin it wrong anyway.

You never ever ever input drives, peripherials or other stuff into PSU Calculators.

And such things are dumber than you with around 2minutes of your time and a pencil and paper.

What they do is just stupidly adding the TDP or worst case scenario power consumption assumptions together.

Just try adding another HDD or remove it. And look at how much it changes!

And also play around with Memory!

As for Wattage: This is what a ~25W (or less) Graphics Card looks like:

https://www.techpowerup.com/221865/zotac-outs-a-pcie-x1-geforce-710-graphics-card

That is some serious heatsinking!

As for Hardware:
My i7-3930K with RX480 (Powercolor) is at around 350W with Prime95 and Heaven.

Outervision say something around 500W or so, at least 100W over what it actually uses. And recommends some low quality EVGA PSU with like 700W for reasons...

And that is the Problem with the Outervision Calculator, there is a monetary incentive to recommend overwatt PSU...

If you OC as hard as you think, you must have a Powermeter of some kind!

Or some other means to measure the power consumption of the Hardware...

Yeah, because they want to sell you stuff.

A 1200W PSU cost a lot more than a 750W one.

And higher Wattage PSU often have higher RPM fans, if the manufacturer doesn't just use one fan for the entire series and optimizes at least a bit for Noise wich means that you can use a 1500rpm fan (or even lower than that) for the 550W model but still use the ~3000rpm for the 1200W one...

I am well aware these are not accurate and they try to promote buying a more expensive product, I was responding to Firewrath9, who originally used this calculator, to show him that my system will say it needs a higher wattage PSU then I actually am using and that those calculators are not accurate. (exactly what you are saying). And if you go to that calculator it fills in peripherals for you automatically by default.

I will say I don't appreciate you criticizing me for trying to be helpful, especially when I wasn't the one using the calculator originally, please read the whole thread if you are going to comment, and try to keep it civil.

I think the confusion is between the posts between you and Firewraith9.

You were using the calculator to determine what PSU to get, which is just a rookie mistake (although you know you'll get a high estimate which isn't a bad thing other than spending too much money).  Firewraith9 claimed he was actually USING 550W simply because a calculator told him he would, which is completely bonkers.

So I think he just got the two of you confused.

I was not using the calculator to determine what PSU to get, Firewraith9 did. I was showing him that I have a cx500 now and it handles a complete system with an OC with out issue, even though that calculator says I should be using at least 550w PSU and it recommends a 750w PSU for my system. Trying to show him that those calculators are incorrect, like everyone else has said.

Also remember that even if you do get a power meter, what you draw from the wall is usually 10-20% more than what your PC is using due to the inefficiency (so, a 500W fully loaded PSU might be pulling 600W from the wall).

I pull under 500W from the wall with an overclocked 5820K and 980Ti, so probably using about 430W or something (with a CPU that has a much higher TDP than yours).

So it’s sound that I’m perfectly safe for now, it’s oc time ???

thanks a lot
