Hello all,

Sorry for my first post is asking for help. Im very new to the pc building game. i thought i had everything figured out after watching hours and hours of Linus on youtube but technical demons have struck my PC build down.

When first building the computer only 2 weeks ago. I for some reason or another, I didnt install my 3.5" HDD's when i first booted up the computer. I had purchased a 250GB Nvme m.2 and also had a free 128GB SSD. so i loaded up windows and a few games, only to realise. Yeah I need some storage xD luckily i had purchased a 2TB Seagate Firecuda, and i already had a 1TB WD from an old external HDD with quite allot of things id like to keep.

So i plugged in both HDD's and nothing......... So I looked in Disk Management, and it showed that the drives were not initialized. No matter what i have tried either of the drives will not initialize. I have tried one at a time, different SATA cables and ports on the motherboard. I have also tried removing my SSD (only has Games on) and using that port and cable. The error message, i am getting is The File Cannot Find the File Specified, Incorrect Function, and The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. The error messages seem to change depending on whats plugged in and what isnt.

I have updated my BIOS, and all drivers, i've also removed the HDD drivers and reinstalled.

Any help would be great. I'll list my Specs below.

MSI B350 Gaming Pro Carbon

Ryzen 5 1600

2 x 4GB HyperX 2666Mhz

MSI 1050ti 4GB

WD Black 256GB Nvme

Kingston A400 120GB SSD

Seagate FireCuda 2TB

EVGA 500W

Hello SecretSink,

If after initializing the hard drive from disk management you still encounter some problems try updating the "IDE ATA / ATAPI Controllers".

Open Device Manager > expand IDE ATA / ATAPI Controllers > Double-click on the desired hard drive to be updated > Click the "Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software".

Hello sorry for my late reply. I have updated all my drivers including "IDE ATA / ATAPI Controllers"

I finaly got the drive to show its capacity for a short time but it will still not initialize. I have used a partition manager and that says that reports BAD DISK.

I think the disk itself maybe dead and unfortunately Ebuyer wont accept returns on it so i will have to try a manufacturer warranty replacement.

Unless there is a last ditch attempt to get the thing to work. Is there a Segate Utility?

I see... You are right! I would definitely try a replacement on this one, initializing a hard drive after partitioning shouldn't be that difficult, I am posting the link to warranty down below for your convenience:
