So I need some help on part picking . . .

My current build contains:

an i5 2600 scavenged off of my dad's workstation

an unnamed Intel motherboard I found in an old gaming pc containing an i3 2100, I then replaced the i3 with the i5.

8gb of Corsair ddr3 ram 1600ghz 2x4  (also found in old gaming pc).

750w corsair atx power supply non-modular.

Stock Intel Cooler.

I then received an MSI GTX 1080 11gb GAMING X for Christmas :)

I then bought a SilverStone Primera rgb matte black.

A 2tb Seagate firecuda hard drive.

A 128gb Silicon Power SSD

I have the plan of having an i7 8700k but I do not know what cooler I should use. I am looking for an Aio....preferably Rgb with overclockability. I am also planning to use the MSI Z370 Carbon Pro. Lastly for ram i would to get the trident Z RGB if my budget allows.

All very expensive but I have a job(I am less than 16) and currently (due to good grades) I have 300 dollars to spend. What should I buy first?

I am new to this Forum even though I am a long time Linus Fan. \

Thanks for your Help!

welcome to the linus Tech Tips forums!

the 2600 is actually an i7-2600 (4cores/4threads - hyperthreading) the i5 was an i5-2500

going to the 6/7/8th GEN will require different RAM as they are on DDR4, you're still on DDR3. so your task just got more expensive.

Thank you so much for your response. I am aware of the ram change would be expensive and whoops my bad on the CPU mess up. Personally . . . what Ram do you run/use?

Would an i3 8350k be able to run a triple monitor set up (future goals) and be able to fit inside of the motherboard I would like to buy? ( MSI Z370 Carbon Pro)

yes, thats dependent on the GPU, and yes. it has 4c/4t so its basically a 7600k and in the future you can upgrade to the new intel 9th gen.

So my MSI GTX 1080 11gb GAMING X is powerful enough for a triple monitor set up? Is there a same price Ryzen equivalent since there is an AMD version of the motherboard.

a ryzen 5 1500x should be fine for gaming, a 2600x is also good.
