I usually seem to know my way around all the Proˋs and Conˋs for choosing between different types of storage, but..

...since my old PC chose to cough up it’s VRM´s the other day, i started digning further into the possiblities of Optane - and it Got me confused..

my “late deceased” motherboard was fitted with an M.2 slot which i used for caching up on my 4 300 GB sshd’s In RAID 5 which i used as my boot- and main drive and even though i know that

an ssd would be faster, i still liked the pace and size of my drive.

now i´m about to replace it with a Z370 board, but does that mean that using M.2 no longer makes sense?

From what i´ve read, Optane will NOT work with M.2 caching - or RAID for that matter?

should i just go and buy an SSD for my bootdrive and big-a** HDD for my main, and then unleash M.2 caching on the SSD and Optane on the HDD?

...and what about the environment - NOT to mention my wallet??

i’d like to hear your suggestions on this one?

kind regards

This is never a bad idea and how I always set my PC up. Keeps the cost down as well :P
