motherboard post code 02

Go to solution Solved by tsunoda,

the board had some damage on the soldering, we have sent it back for a replacement, seems that it might just be a dead board so fingers crossed.

thanks for all the suggestions, just didnt see a couple of traces that were broken on the board (inbetween the 2nd pcie and sata data ports)

D2 - PCH Initialization Error

Is the board updated for Ryzen 2? It may not be your first rodeo but X370 doesn't natively support Ryzen 2 without a BIOS update.

If that is the issue (which I believe is likely), you have a few options:

  1. If you bought the board from a brick and mortar retailer, bring it to them and ask if they can update the BIOS. If they cannot,
  2. Contact Gigabyte and see if they will send you a motherboard with an updated BIOS. If they will not,
  3. Contact AMD. They will ship you out an older A-series APU for AM4 that will allow you to update the BIOS. https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/2Gen-Ryzen-AM4-System-Bootup.aspx

There is no conventional way of updating the board's BIOS without a supported CPU.
