So here's the build I've got, want to know opinions on which version of the 1080 Ti people recommend.  The purpose of this build is casual gaming / daily driver.  I've never really went balls out on a system before, and I know I could more yet on this, but this is already more than I've ever spent on a system and this will suit me for years to come.

Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z370-A

CPU: Core i5 8600K (planning to overclock up to 5 GHz)

CPU cooler: Corsair H100i v2

Memory: G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200

Case: Phanteks P350X Black/White

PSU: EVGA 650 GQ

Monitor: yet to be purchased, but will be a 24" 2K G-SYNC when I do

I'm looking at the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 HYBRID GAMING because I like the idea of having both the CPU and GPU on liquid cooling.  I'm not planning on overclocking the GPU really, just want something quiet as it will be right beside me on the desk in my room.  Admittedly, I am somewhat prioritizing aesthetics because, well I want to :p.  Going for a white/black look, maybe a blue accent with the RGB.  I like the look of the EVGA cards when mounted in the system, that they display the make/model of the card.  The other one I'm considering are:

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 GAMING

ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 TI 11GB

From what I've read/watched on reviews, it sounds like it's splitting hairs at this level... but I'd love to know what everyone thinks!

CPU - Core i5 8600K @ 5.0GHz  |  Motherboard - ASUS Prime Z370-A  |  RAM - G.Skill TridentZ RGB 16GB  |  GPU - EVGA 1080Ti FTW3
Case - Phanteks Eclipse P350X  |  Storage - Crucial MX500 M.2 500GB  |  PSU - EVGA 650 GQ 80+ Gold  |  Display - Dell S2719DGF 2K GSYNC

The STRIX is the best 1080 Ti although the FTW3 is great too. Get whatever's cheaper and if they're both the same price get the STRIX. EVGA makes great cards but the STRIX is just amazing

honestly? The one with the best Deal you get. or in my opinion neither

Pricing almost certainly will go down during the next Quarter and since GPU Boost is a thing you dont even need to take a closer look at the Frequencys.

If you buy a brand new TI right now, keep in mind that you will encounter new car levels of value loss, therefore you should keep the threshold low.  The ASUS Card is about 830 freedom $$ atm. Try to get a used 980Ti for about 1/4th of this , keep it till the 1180 Gen is announced/released and profit :)

Better off with an i7 8700 non K IMO, Hyperthreading is likely more useful than 700mhz.

Why are you buying a 1080ti for a 2K monitor?

Did you mean a 1440p 144hz display? If so Vega 56 with a free-sync display should be fine.

OItherwise just buy like a 1070ti for now.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I'm somewhat limited as I've cashed in a number of reward points and got myself $600CAD in Best Buy gift cards.  I've also got about $375CAD in cash back rewards coming on the CC I'll buy with, so I've got almost $1000CAD of "free to me" money going against this card, I just have to pay the difference but am limited to what I can get through Best Buy.

CPU is already purchased, so I'm sticking with the i5 8600K

Yes, I meant 1440p 144hz display.  As for Vega, I haven't seen anything wowing me to go AMD over nVidia for GPU

1070 Ti, that was my original card I was going for... but I figured why the hell not go for a 1080 Ti if it's only a going to put me out of pocket a couple hundred in the end.

Higher end cards that are faster than a 1080ti will be out soon enough

and Vega 56/1070ti will be fine for that resolution, not sure if you have cheap free-sync displays in canada though.

You should also get a case that actually has airflow, like an H500 or something

And were you only buying things from Best Buy? As it looks like the free-sync equivilant of a 1440p 144hz IPS displays is $300 CAD cheaper.

Vega 56 pricing sucks over there though.

GPU only from Best Buy, all other parts are already bought through NewEgg.ca and just waiting assembly.  I went P350X because I just loved the look of the case.  If I find that my thermals are bad, then I guess I'll upgrade that down the line.  I know I free-sync monitors are cheaper and I'll pay more fore the G-SYNC, but I'm worth it :P and want nVidia

The nvidia card will work fine on the free-sync display, certainly not worth an extra $300 if the part picker is accurate
