Low ram or low cpu specs?

when making a mid ranged rig, is it preferred to have higher spec ram or a higher spec cpu?

*considering that if the ram or cpu was chosen to have the higher specs, the other would have lower*

For example, would you rather have:

-16gb ddr3 ram and i3

or

-8gb ddr3 ram and i7

 

This isnt for a rig of my own, im just curious

Low RAM and high-end CPU, you can always add more RAM in the future for way cheaper than buying an entirely new CPU.

It depends on the workload, and you do need to hit more of a balance rather than just completely prioritizing one over the other.

 

But typically the CPU is more important.

For me I'd strike for the less RAM and better CPU.
