recently bought a latop and it was reformatted. some of his old files were still on the hd though. most just empty folders and what not but i have been wanting to make sure everything is like new if you get what im saying. not particularly super tech savy, so i decided to come here for help xD

so both drives have windows and i only want the ssd to have windows.

i also want to make sure everything is reformatted back to stock.

I would just click reformat but i don't know if it will knock windows off of the hd or the ssd.

The laptop is a asus gl702vsk

any help if mostly appreciated.

If you are installing Windows, it asks you to select a disk (if it has no partitions) or partition. If you select a disk, it will format the disk and add the appropriate partitions. If you select a partition, it will reformat just the partition.

So basically, if you install Windows on the SSD, it will not touch the HDD. But if you still want to format the HDD, you can. After Windows installs, right click on it in File Explorer and select "Format."

If you want to reformat everything while installing Windows, when it asks you to select a disk or partition, just select everything and press "Delete" until you can't anymore. Then select the SSD.

Hello T.I.T,

Agree with M.Yurizaki. do a right click on the drive and choose format.

I would only add that depending on the size of the hard drive and the forecasted usage you will need to use either NTFS or exFAT. NTFS is better because it doesn't have a limitation of having volumes that don't exceed the 2TB or restrictions to storing files less than 4GB in size.
