Hey guys,

I'm in need of help upgrading the ram on my computer. I have a Dell OptiPlex, the big tower; and I bought RAM to upgrade my work PC from 4GB to 8GB and eventually upgrade it to 16GB. The ram was 2 sticks of DDR3, the recommended type. Each stick 4GB totaling eight. But when I installed the 8GB the computer rejected it and I was forced to go back to the 4 lousy gigs. I'm thinking I either bought a non-compatible version of the DDR3, or it was defective. Links in below of my computer and the RAM I bought. Oh! I should also mention that I troubleshoot the issue before giving up and going back to the original RAM. Please help me get my PC's RAM upgraded.

Maybe the mobo is due a BIOS update to be able to use the 8 gigs?  I clicked on the link for the system and it says use only 1066-1333 ram while the ram you are putting in is 1600.  That could contribute too, maybe........

I agree with you on this; might need to update the BIOS.

As for DRAM frequency, DRAM JEDEC default is usually DDR3-1333 -- I don't think that would be an issue...

Maybe you have a version of windows 32 bit.

The system should not just fail to boot (if that is what the OP is referring to when it "rejects" it).

A 32-bit OS will recognize 8GB, 16GB, or whatever, but will simply say " (4GB usable) ".
