Hey folks, I've accumulated spare cash from summer job and i think i finally need to upgrade my pc, but those are just my thoughts, tell me if you think i really need a new platform, i mainly play esports games, but from time to time i play something more demanding like PUBG. My res is 1080p at 144Hz. I don't wish and i can't afford everything new. I want to keep my GPU and PSU. I just want a new platform - CPU (MOBO too), RAM and also an SSD, prefferably 500 GB, because I'd rather clone my current OS, than reinstall everything.

I want the best CPU for this card and 16GB's of ram, so i have to sit in a budget(RAM aint cheap these days) , if you could also mention the best ram speed for the money. Form factor doesn't matter i have an ATX case and i have the case closed always anyway.

Here's what i have to work with right now.

CPU I5-3550

GPU GTX-1060 6GB

PSU Corsair VS450

RAM 8GB 1600MHz

I also wish to play the new Battlefield V when it comes out!

Thanks.

Also with ram prices as they are.... you might be better off making a upgrade to last you for another 2 years and just saving for a full new system then.

I personally would recommend you keep everything you have and do the following.

Pickup a used i7-3770k with a decent CPU cooler. Overclock it to 4.5 ghz.

Pickup a SSD in the size you want 500gb.

Potentially buy another 8gb of ram.

This will give you enough CPU horsepower that bottlenecking won't be a major concern for at least two more years. It will give you the snappiness of an SSD and if you get ram well more ram.

Now ddr3 to ddr4 isn't a huge performance gain. I mean yes you can get 3200+ but you can also get 2400 ddr3 that is actually faster than 2400 ddr4 (due to latency etc)

My point is you can get more bang for your buck by just doing the above.

I have an h61 chipset.  :(

I can get a 3770, a friend of mine is making a new pc, he has 16gbs of ddr3, but it's 1333 MHz, would it make a big difference?

MX500 Performs nearly as well as the Samsung SSD and costs slightly less. i5-8400 is definitely the strong processor. DDR4 I picked has a little tighter timings than the prior one presented in thread.

Both of these options will outperform the top performing I7 in that socket. Though when overclocked it is very close between the 3770k and the 1500x due to the i7-3770k generally having a larger % OC than the Ryzen processor. The 8400 is not overclockable yet likely will soundly win in gaming over both of the other two regardless of overclock, unless LN2 cooling is done... which would be atrociously intensive during a gaming session lmao.

Rawr.
