I made a Nixie tube clock a while back and it has wifi onboard which allows me to set the time and change the colors remotely by signing into it locally like a router. However whenever I try to save the options they don't. So after talking to the manufacturer and looking at the description I have an issue somewhere on it. It can't talk to the IC2 which is the wifi module. The only things that I would worry about are the SMD around it as they are super tiny and it was my first time soldering anything that small. So can I use a multi meter to see what's working and what's not or is there some other way? Thanks

Just keeping this here as a Using your eye is the best first step. Testing for shorts is always a good start. Checking the manuel for importent points (voltages and waveformes) and messure which voltage is there is the next step. Other fun can be a diode mounted in the wrong way, mixed up some resistor and capacitor or soldering the IC in the wrong orientation.

Or you just screw this and hook up the o-scope to the i2c to see what is going on.

Don't have probes for my scope yet but I will check. Everything looks visually ok I just don't know if it burned up when I was soldering it. I can access the wireless module so I know most of the circuit going to the IC2 is working just saving to the memory

Buring something up is not as easy as it looks. Unless you totaly screwed up and even the pcb turns black you should be fine.

So far you can talk to the wifi chip over i2c (or wlan?) but it does not save your settings? Do you might have a link to the kit?

You are right it's I2C. I can successfully talk to it over wlan but no saved settings.

The good is you can talk to the ESP-01 which mean you have a stable enough power delivery and a kind of sucessfull flash.

 

Did you had time to watch for the i2c port? if not you could also check continuity between the esp and atmega. Messerung Vcc on the atmega should not yield any surprise since they are on the same 3.3V voltage line and the atmega does not need that clean power compared to the esp (checked that the atmega is working?).

I have looked over the schematics and tested voltage. All is correct and connection is working throughout. Especially the I2C connection to the atmeg chip. Voltage is correct and I resoldered the Mosfets as I thought that's what was causing an issue. I honestly have no clue now

Honestly at this point since everything electrically checks out I think I am going to see if I can reflash it or get a chip from the seller. I think if the firmware doesn't match on the atmeg and for the wireless it won't work which might explain why I can't see I2C slave in the info tab.
