Gaming CPU Needed

Im currently only gaming Ive been stuck between the 2700X and the 8700K. Ive heard that the 2700X is both cheaper and comes with a stock cooler. Is it worth paying more for the 8700K plus having to buy a cooler or stick with the 2700X as it’s also more future proof and the X470 platform will last at least for another generation. (I use a GTX 1080 will there be any bottlenecks?)

If your primary use case is single thread heavy applications (Most games) then get the 8700K.

I might start doing video editing and streaming.

You can do fine on both but if you have a higher refresh rate monitor then go for the 8700k.

Definitely go for the 8700k then. It's good enough to do editing and editing (albeit probably not as good as the 2700x)

Is that 1080p 144hz or 1440p 144hz? Did you already buy anything yet?

but the correct answer is the R5 1600 at current pricing if you're in the US.

Get a 8700k in most categories it beats out the 2700x on paper. Both can game and stream fine for the average person. But your looking at two of the best mainstream cpus so you might as well pick the better and get a 8700k

Firestrike
i7-8700k @5.0GHz w/ 1.30v, Corsair h100iv2, Gigabye Aorus gaming 7, 16GB(8x2) 2666MHz ddr4, Dual RX470's OC'd to 1390mhz(atm) in corssfire - liguid cooled with corsair h60's, 3.25 TB in Samsung SSD's, anidees white crystal cube case

Retired:
i5-4440k @3.2GHz, gigabyte ga-z87x-ud5h z87, 24GB DDR3, 3x1TB Seagate Baracuda HDD.

How long will I be able to use the 8700k compared to the 2700X considering it has more cores.

So what all of you are saying is that I should go 8700k because it’s better even though I save around 200 dollars going with the 2700X is the 8700k 200 dollars better then the 2700X

Honestly for gaming you probably won't need a crap ton of cores for a while. If you have 1080p and upgrade to a 1440p monitor you'll have to worry less about your cpu for even longer so theres that (correct me if i'm wrong folks lol). As for longevity, you could honestly use it as long as it'll last until it dies but in like 4-6 years it'll start to show its age (like every other cpu and that's basically how long hardware lasts, atleast for decent performance). OVERALL, 8700k is the better choice because 1. You have a higher refresh rate monitor and I doubt anyone who's experienced 144hz or higher will be willing to go back down to 60 (when gaming anyways) 2. It'll do what you need it to do good enough as it's one of the two best CPU's for video recording, editing and whatnot like one of the dudes above said and 3. You'll probably upgrade at the same time if you got either CPU so I don't think you need to worry about longevity although it really just depends on what your standards are.

given that, and as a 8700k owner then heck no fuck that intel chip. (mind you do not factor in the cooler, since you probaly want a quiet cooler for your 2700x) But still if you are serious about streaming then adm, if you want video editing then 8700k. But if the price is anything more than 80 bucks i would say fuck intel

Ah yeah I forgot to consider price. If you're rich should go for the 8700k but if you really want to save that $ then just get the 2700x

In one benchmark site the 8700k won 13 of 19 categories over the 2700. If your worried about core count but would get Intel wait till the coffee lake refresh comes out with supposed 17&19 mainstream 8core. Then we can compare amd to Intel 8 core so it's even.... Even tho the six core takes more categories.

When would the coffee lake refresh come out?
