Whelp just posted this in cpu/ mobos

So I have a 144hz Freesync monitor, combo’d with an old as gtx 660, I really only play games where you get stupid high FPS like the esports shooters. I was looking at 1070’s as well as rx 56 and 64’s. It looks to me like the amd cards are still quite a bit more pricy.

My question is, if I am locked at 144 is it worth paying more to be able to use Freesync in games I’m not reaching 144hz I’ve never used either of the sync’s before so I don’t know how they feel.

Didnt know if to to post this here or displays, sorry.. ima noob

Basically, as long as your graphics card is fast enough to get 144 frames in a game, your monitor will display it. (use display port for maximum POWER)

Freesync just matches the refresh rate for the monitor and GPU to prevent screen tearing on AMD graphic cards.

G-Sync does the same thing, but for Nvidia, and G-sync monitors are more expensive. (Freesync additions to monitors are basically free)

If you don't know what screen tearing is, it's mostly minor, but look up a video if you are not sure.

I would get the best nvidia GPU that you can get, then save up for a nice monitor, and use the one you have now as a second monitor. RX 56 and 64's have horrible performance for the price and still haven't recovered from the mining craze. Get a 1070, maybe a 1070 ti. That will last you a couple of years at least for the games you play, (If you play at 1080p)

Freesync does help if you're not saturating the monitor's refresh rate, but given the current pricing I'd advise to buy an older r9 fury (possibly used?) which will perform close to a 1070 and support freesync, as well as probably being cheaper.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

And use much more power.

Not much more than a vega and it will definitely cost him much less, even in the long run, than buying a gsync monitor.
