I would get any PCI-E to wifi card adapter with an AC 8265, I was able to achieve 180mbs in my 200 mbs internet. I bet you can find newer intel AC cards.

Do you get higher rates on wired?  180 is a bit low for a 2x2 AC client although it depends on a lot of factors.

Its been my experience WiFi on PCs can be a bit funny about hitting full broadband speed, even when WiFi to LAN speeds are much much higher.  Not sure why to be honest, I assume its just the nature of slapping so many different network transport technologies onto each other, the latencies add up.

Like all these radio frequency technologies, it really depends on a lot of factors you just can't know without trying.

If your house wiring is good and its a relatively short distance on the same breaker/circuit as the router then typically yes a good powerline adapter should work well, but the only way to know for sure is to try it.

WiFi is generally cheaper to try, although stick to known brand adapters as the cheaper unknown/unbranded ones even using identical chipsets often have poor antennas/amplifiers so their range and speed is much worse.  I found that out while out of curiosity buying two identical chipset adapters, one TP-Link, one unbranded off eBay.

My router is the basic one i got with my ISP aka Xfinity. I was also looking into powerline extenders , you think be better than a wifi card ?

Power line adapters if they work generally are more stable then fast. You might get slower speeds, but over all have a more constantly stable connection.

Xfinity has an assortment of Gateways they give out. Some of the newer ones support 802.11 AC, so they should be okish. The big thing you need to figure out is what WiFi standard does the Xfinity box support. Then you can decide on a wireless adapter. Though Id go with ASUS or TPLink as they seem to have good adapters.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Though it should be safe to go for at least an 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO adapter, even if your router doesn't support it right now.  Saves the hassle of replacing the dongle again later.
