UEFI Issues

 So I have an MSI Z87 G45 Gaming Motherboard. When I put the BIOS as UEFI+Legacy, it works just fine, and will have my 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD as a boot option. When I change to UEFI, however, it's not an option. Neither are the 4 other hard drives I have connected. Is this just a thing that I have to set my SSD to do, or am I missing something?

UEFI+Legacy is for booting to Windows 7, Vista, Etc

UEFI flat out is for booting to Windows 8

Ahhhhh... That makes sense then. Well... If I ever have to upgrade to 8, I'll be sure to set that. Thank you!

If you are changing it to UEFI, you would need your SSD to be a GPT partition where it uses Windows Boot Manager boot option to boot the OS. If you want to convert your MBR partision to GPT on Windows 7, you can do it:http://sdnalloh.com/converting-win7-from-mbr-to-gpt/ (don't defrag like it says in the tutorial)

 

I used this tutorial before to convert my Windows 7 to UEFI mode so I can upgrade to Windows 8 and take advantage of its UEFI boot times and secure boot . Just make sure you backup your stuff before doing it. I would only change it if you plan to upgrade to Windows 8.
