so i tried to tidy up the my documents folder on my computer by putting all folders with savegames in one folder. I couldnt access any of my safegames, so i put the folders back the way they were, but the games still dont recognize the save games (except borderlands 1). does anyone know a way of fixing this, i got some serious hours in some games and i dont wanna lose them.

btw im using windows 8 so restoring previous versions isn't an option.

The problem is not Windows 8.

The problem is that since Vista, you have a nice neat folder called 'Saved Games', but game developers are too lazy and find it better to spot to put your saved games, and just dumps all it's crap under your documents. Because, who cares right? Don't worry, you are not the first to be pissed off by this.

What I do, is that I set the folder in Document from games, and any files it dumps at the root of the Document folder, to hidden. Like this they are out of my way. I just make the folder in Documents (not sub folder or files) hidden.

As for your games not recognizing your saves. First, back them up, so that you don't accidentally loose them. Also, have a look at AppData directory (Start > type on the Start Screen: shell:appdata > enter, and you'll be there) Then, backup all the games folder there too, just in case.

Now, what I am thinking is that you are not putting the saves games exactly where they were.

What you do, is go in the game, play a new game, save quit. Then replace the saved game with your game. That should do the trick.

Please note, if any game uses Games for Windows Live service, some games, have their saved game are encrypted with a generated key, which means, that you just lost your game, if they implemented this. Some publishers/developers don't want you to sale your saved games, is the idea. Games for Windows Live offers this implementation. Now, it doesn't mean that the game developer or publishers added their own thing that does the same. Then again, if you were able to move your saved game from Windows 7 to Windows 8 without a problem, then you don't have any games that are affected by this.
