Will 16gb ddr4 2666mhz work with 8gb ddr4 2666mhz dual channel?

I believe it'll work, but only half the 16GB will operate in dual channel mode. The other half won't.

 

Not that there's a problem if it doesn't operate at all in dual channel mode since it doesn't seem to affect performance in many cases.

is that 2x8GB(16GB) and 2x4GB(8GB) or

is that 1x16GB and 2x4GB(8GB)
