I read about people using refurbished HDDs, to save big money on multiple drives.

- You do lose warranty like on a normal drive.

- You are closer to it's death point.

- But it is cheaper. You can buy 3x 1Tb for the cost of a new 1Tb.

- As long as you have a backup scheduled, a loss of a drive shouldn't be that drastic.

I have had several refurbished Seagate Barracuda 500GB drives that work to this day. And they are at least 5-6 years old. (from when i owned them)

Should I trust refurbished WD, Seagate, Hitachi, HGST? I don't buy knock-offs, just personal preference...

I'd only buy a used/refurb SSD, and only an HDD if it was an amazing deal (we're talking 20 CAD or less for a 1TB drive). I don't trust them.
