Trouble Booting an OS on a Tyan S7012 Motherboard

I've been building a dual Xeonx build the last few days on a Tyan S7012 motherboard and it has been an absolute nightmare. I am currently struggling to get any kind of operating system to actually post from the board. I have tried multiple version of Ubuntu, old and new, and they all lead me a blinking cursor up at the top left of the screen. I did an install of WIndows 10 that causes the board to not even fully boot. I've never tinkered with a "Server Board" before so I am at a loss here. What are my options/what am I doing wrong? Any help is extremely appreciated!

Reset the cmos and update the bios if you can. I'm assuming these are all used parts, so we can't rule out one or more components being damaged.

Try testing with once cpu at a time. Ensure memory is populated properly and test as few modules at a time as you can in case a stick is bad.

Ensure the button cell is fresh.

Disconnect as many devices as possible during the boot process. A display adapter is about as much as you'll want to have connected during troubleshooting, and not even that if the board has basic built in display capabilities.

I was able to get the computer to boot with WIndows 7 on it. Everything runs fine and dandy with the on CPU and 28GB of RAM installed. I'm still perplexed as to why Ubuntu isn't able to boot up?

You might have to do some sleuthing on the Ubuntu forums for that then mate, I was under the impression that no OS worked on this machine.

You said you tried multiple versions of Ubuntu, what about Ubuntu Server? Seems more likely to have been tested in that kind of configuration.

I did download Ubuntu Server, however I was not able to figure out how to install it. I found myself in a partitioning loop that I didn't understand. I'm going to try updating all the drivers and getting the latest BIOS to see if that helps.

Ive gotten the latest version of Ubuntu installed now, which is fantastic! I reset the BIOS and installed it via a USB Boot disk. I remember reading somewhere that this board didnt support that feature, but I guess i was wrong. I had been using my gaming rig to load the OS onto the drive and then connecting it tok the other board. The only problem I have now is occasionnaly, Ill never get a video output from my graphics card, a Gigabyte Windforce OC 970. Its hit or miss and I have yet to find what exactly is causing the problem. Any ideas?

I'm really glad you got that sorted mate, great news!

As for your 970 problem, have you installed the proprietary NVidia driver for the card, or are you using the open source ones?
