AMD RX 580 8GB vs GTX 1060 6GB! I NEED YOUR HELP!

So im building a new computer for my friend and I have sourced all the other parts except the gpu. For this I have decided either the GTX 1060 6gb or the RX 580. Both cards are bascially the same price. Where I am confused is does the 2GB more vram from the rx 580 outweigh the lower core clock than the 1060? The games he will be playing mostly are: Overwatch, Fortnite, GTA V and Sea of Thieves. I want your guy's opinion on this topic.

Thanks in advance!

For the same price I would go with the RX 580. It's a slightly better card overall, but the 1060 can pull more FPS in some of those games depending on optimisation.

In DirectX 12 games the RX 580 wins in most (if not all) of them.

In DirectX 11 they trade blows depending on the game.

The 1060 performs better in most of the games you've mentioned. The only real advantage of the RX 580 is the Freesync support, so if you plan on getting a Freesync monitor, definitely get the 580. It consumes about 100W more than the 1060 so that should also be taken into consideration.

Definitely the RX 580. Trades blows with the 1060 in terms of raw performance but it has FreeSync not to mention those sexy AF coolers from Sapphire

Last time I checked benchmarks the 580 8gb was on average a little better and it also has freesync so I'd get the 580

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

@Crunchy Dragon What is your opinion on this subject and could you rate this build? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dRkdq4 no overclocking for the cpu

For the same price, I would go with the 580, mostly for the extra VRAM.

They're fairly equal cards though.

Ok bros RX 580 it is. Rate this overall build for it! https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dRkdq4

If you're getting an RX 580, get a Sapphire one. Nitro+ is the best 580 available. Pulse is slightly hotter and louder, but still a really decent card, better than MSI Armor.
