It's more about compute performance rather than frame rate of games. I own an 8600K overclocked to 4.7GHz from base, it's nice to know the option to beef up your CPU is there, otherwise why else would Intel add the K suffix?

For creators in particular, overclocks can yield greater render and compute times compared to stock, of course with the additional heat and power consumption.

On a less serious note, it's fun to say "I own an overclocked 8600K running at 4.7GHz", which is a bonus bragging right in that regard.

Comparing the stock 8700k vs 8700k at 5-5.2 Ghz, the frame rate of games only increase by up to 4-15 fps for the overclocked when using 1080 Ti. It's really not much of a difference. Why bother?

When you are doing CPU intensive stuff like video editing an overclock will make it run smoother and faster.

It's not worth it unless you're a benchmark zombie. Overclocking increases heat, power consumption and reduces performance long term. And, I'm not talking about a very light overclock 100-200mhz. Now there will be many who disagree with me, but that's just my opinion.
