I really felt in love with that case, I don't know if someone knows a similar one that suports mATX or ATX but still small.

But that is the idea, make a compact server (SFF). Small as possible, at least 2   3.5" and  2    2.5" slots.

Pretending to run a ESXI 6.7 as base OS with:

  • unRAID: NAS and media server (transmission, Plex and couchpotato)
  • Windows 10 PC
  • And 2 lab pc's

Note: maybe it is too overkill or poor. I don't know.

Note: Where I live there is no much offer of server grade hardware, thats why every thing is ""gaming hardware"

Hope you guys can give me a hand.

Thanks very much.

Either use ESXi or unRAID, don't run either of them as a VM under the other. unRAID will run VMs just fine and while ESXi is slightly better hypervisor that is all it does so no NAS features, meaning VM required for that.

Is there any disadvantage for doing it "nested"?

A NAS for that much? Buy an G4560 with 8GB of ram, and use the integrated graphics. H110 motherboard to use the CPU. BIOS update might be needed.

How about now?

Performance and also getting the HDDs to the unRAID VM properly but mainly there is actually no reason to, unRAID alone will do what you need to so why add ESXi at all.

Where I work we use ESXi and I am familiar with the vm administration ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just curious, why spend the extra money on a 6 core cpu and the motherboard rather than larger hard drives? Sounds like you don't need the power that these components would provide
