I have MLs too and they work fine. Corsair even says that they're meant for both use cases, I don't see a problem here. Besides, people don't really make specific fans for specific use cases. They might make fans that are slightly more optimized for one thing (like the MLs, they're only slightly more optimized for SP rather than AF) but most of the time, you don't notice anything and it makes no difference in temps, maybe by a degree at max.

I am looking for the best airflow optimized sound/performance fans for 120mm and 140mm I have corsair ML fans right now and feel like they are not optimized for airflow though. They can be existing fans or fans that will be launched soon.

1) are you happy with the temps
2) are you happy with the noise
3) how many fans do you need
is it worth to you solving 1 and 2 if you where to pay 20*number of fans in usd?
if so let us know.

Well I had just always heard noctua fans are the best for performance/noise, but wasn't 100% sure. I would be getting either 3x 120mm or 3x 140mm for the front of my new case where astetics doesn't matter and the back/top I was either going to put my ML120 fans or get corsair LL fans. I can't say on temps right now because with my current case I'm forced to put my aio with loud sp140s in the front and have 3x ml120s exhaust which keeps the air coming in my case toasty. So my new setup will have a rad(360mm) up top, a 140mm fan in the back (those will either be ML fans or ll) and then 3x fans in the front. Can either be 120s or 140s.

What are your specs and temps? Why are you not satisfied with your current cooling?

I do not like the radiator in the front, blowing hot air on all of my componants and I want positive airflow. That's why when I switch cases I want a 360mm rad on top. I am probably going to use my ml fans on the radiator, and wanted to put either 3x120s or 3x140s in the front. In this case they will be mostly hidden from sight so instead of caring about looks I just wanted to get good and quiet airflow fans

Air coming through a rad will be a bit warmer but not hot. It doesn't make much difference to temps and cooling for other components as long a there's adequate exhaust for the case. What you already have seems perfectly fine.

Well... Whats the best 140mm airflow fans sound/performance?

I know it works fine, I just don't personally like my setup.

It depends on what noise levels you're aiming for. At low rpm, NF-A14's would probably be the best. NF-A12x25's would be better if you can use 120mm's.

The case I'm getting can do either 120 or 140s. I'm mostly just trying to get them quieter than a ML fan from corsair

What rpm are you running the ML's at? Are you using pwm?

They are on pretty low rpms. I cannot hear them at all. I am just looking for a fan that's actually designed for airflow and I want to make sure that it's not louder so I won't hear it. Since I will most likely be re using these ML fans for a 360 radiator in the top and want some fans for the front to be 140mm

The 400C has a solid panel front and a bit of static pressure is useful. ML's are pretty suitable already. How are you determining that it doesn't have enough airflow?

I'm changing my case. ML fans are probably going to go on my new radiator(360mm) in the top of the case. New case has enough room for 3x140mm fans in the front. Since I have to get new fans for the front anyways, I wanted to get good quiet airflow fans. Hoping for something better for airflow and c a little cheaper than buying 140mm ML fans. Thought about noctua, but I know nothing about their or any companies fans besides corsairs. Wanting good airflow fans so the rpm could be lower than a fan designed for each.

I'm planning on the Evolv X when it comes out

The Evolv X is actually more restrictive and would benefit from fans with more static pressure than the 400C.

If money isn't an issue, NF-A12x25's would probably be best.

There's no 140mm version of the same design out yet. The NF-A14 is older and will be superseded by what I imagine would be under a slightly different name.

3x NF-A12x25's would easily be better than 2x NF-A14's though.
