It started back in 2016 when my PC would randomly shut itself off as if it had became unplugged. I suspected a bad PSU and used my warranty for a new PSU. Having had bad luck, there was a power bump and I am pretty sure it fried the PSU. I brought it to the repair shop and they replaced the old PSU with a new cheap brand and all worked well for a while. Some time later it began happening again and I decided to give my PC components a clean which fixed the problem. Just recently my PSU started making noises when being first booted up from sleep or cold boot. Eventually the sound would go away but my PC YET AGAIN started showing the same symptoms.

I decided enough was enough and even though my temps seemed normal, I bought a brand new case, heatsink, 2 new fans for more airflow and a brand new EVGA 650W GQ PSU. If these parts wouldn't fix the problem, I believe I have ruled out a bad PSU and/or high temps. Keep in mind I am not overclocking either. PC seemed to be fine for just under a week and then shut off.  I gave it the benefit of the doubt and another week later it shut off again.

My PC specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790k CPU @ 4.00GHz
MB: Asus Maximus VII Hero
RAM: 16GB
OS: Windows 10
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
PSU: EVGA 650 GQ

I have run memtest86 to see if it can find anything wrong within my memory.  Memtest86 didnt find anything wrong after multiple passes.  I have also updated my BIOS, passed Intels Processor Diagnostic Tool, run Cinebench, FurMark, Heaven, and Prime95 all with no issues.

I am also attaching the Event Viewer log.

I appreciate any help and ideas. I am beyond frustrated!
If there is anything else I have missed, let me know and I can do my best to provide.

It seems to be random.  It usually will shut off when I am gaming, but it has also been known to shut down watching Twitch and browsing the internet

Try running of integrated graphics and see if it continues. I know this would be a pain, but It's worth a shot. If you want to play a game, pop the GPU back in there, but if you can run off the iGPU. Just trying to remove variables.

I game on my PC almost regularly in my free time (which is quite often with my work schedule) so this would be a real pain indeed, especially when shutdowns have been known to happen weeks at a time.  By doing this though, assuming it happens to shut down again, we can rule out the graphics card being the issue and it most likely being a mobo issue?

Do you have any other ideas that would not require this method?

I appreciate your help and knowledge on this subject!

Yeah there's other stuff we would try. It's hard  to say what the issue is, since you've replaced the power supply already. I don't suppose you have a different CPU, motherboard, or GPU, do you? Are you running your PC straight from thew wall or through a power bar of some sort?

I am currently running in through a surge protector power bar, but have tried running it from the wall in the past.  Not with this new PSU though, so I will directly go through the wall.  As for the extra parts, I do not have extras.  It is getting to the point though that I am thinking about buying new parts until it eventually becomes magically fixed and I have a second PC lol...

Run it through the wall for a while, and simply come back to this thread and respond to me if you have the issue again. Sounds like it's definitely a power delivery issue.
