Hi,

I'm looking for a backup program with these features:

- Backing up to a network drive

- Having a file history, so i could acces a older version of a file

- Automatic backup every hour or something like that

- Automatic deleting of backups older than .... days

I hope i will get some good suggestions. I tried the backup tool in windows 10 and it works great but there is one problem. I can't backup my entire c drive.

Thank you!

I use the free version of Paragon Backup and Recovery 16 (also known as Hard Disk Manager 16) to backup to my networked FreeNAS box which backs up as a VD but has a file explorer built into the app and also allows you to have incremental backups. I'm pretty sure it allows auto deleting on a backup retention setting, but not 100% sure.

If you are willing to pay for the full version ($30 USD), it allows you to create more than one backup job (free version limits you to one) and some other things that I have never really needed.

Windows File History does exactly what you want.

Windows 10:

Start > Settings > Update & Security > Backup

Windows 8:

From the start screen type: File History, and it should show up.

Yes i tried using that, it works great. But as soon as you want to backup program files or any files that need admin rights it wont work anymore.

Why do you want to backup program files or any files that need admin right (system files), if I may ask?

Have a look into Veeam, it's more a pro solution for companies but they also offer a free agent for Windows clients that can run standalone and backup to a network folder or USB drive. You can configure it to start backup whenever your screensaver locks.

Thank you, that might be a great option.
