i currently have some awful speakers on my tv/old hifi setup, and i want new one's. i want good quality neutral sound. i'll most likely play records and watch movies. i won't be gaming on that setup.

if possible, i'd like to use my current amplifier, the Pioneer VSX-405RDS mk2. i also have an old school equalizer (Sony SEQ-411) so i can make small adjustments if necessary..

For speakers like this I generally just look on Craigslist for a month or so and eventually a really good deal will come along for some slightly older speakers.  Just make sure you can listen to them first.

oh okay. i'll start looking then. thanks!

Well. I don't know about EU, but Klipsch has some R-14's for $200/pair.

Sony has a decent pair for $150.

Kind of depends on what exactly your looking for.

...AND I just looked up your reciever to find it's a 5.1. If'n your looking for that, I have a set of teeny tiny yet surprisingly good Yamaha NS-P40 that's all 5.1 for around that price.

it's very old school 5.1... you can't plug in 5 dedicated channels. you just plug in stereo sound and it tries to make it 5.1

Ah. Well then whatever floats your boat between stereo or 5.1. You could very well look for used speakers but I'd definitely recommend not buying them unless you can listen to them. My brother did a bit of a stupid and bought some used speakers where one had some visual damage, which also apparently affected the audio as well, and it's a weird muffled sound.

@JZStudios thanks for your help, but i won't have to buy speakers anymore. i can get a decent 5.1 surround setup from my parents because they don't use them anymore :)
