I'm the proud owner of a set of Edirol MA-15d speakers. For a while I had them connected with a decent RCA cable.
Due to some static noise (and as a chrismas gift of my sister) I switched to Optical.

 

The problem is that when I switch the windows audio settings to 192Khz I loose all sound. Although I checked the specifications of my audio card (onboard P6X58D-E) and from the speakers themselves. Both support a 192Khz sample rate with a 24-bit D/A converter.
This did work without any problem when I was using the analog RCA cable.

I know 24bit/192Khz is a bit absurd and as all my music is 44.1Khz and the upsampling to 192 will probably do more harm then good, but would like the possibility as I sometimes work in adobe Adition with a 192Khz file.
 

I did try disabling all non used playback devices, and installed the newest drivers from Realtek.
If nothing helps I might consider buying a Asus Xonas Essence STX, as my Sennheiser HD598's would benefit from the embedded amplifier .

I'm pretty sure optical doesn't have enough bandwidth for 192Khz. I could be wrong though. 

Edit: I just took a look online and as I said optical doesn't support 192Khz, only up to 96Khz.

I'm pretty sure optical doesn't have enough bandwidth for 192Khz. I could be wrong though. 

Edit: I just took a look online and as I said optical doesn't support 192Khz, only up to 96Khz.

I guess I got a more then decent cable, and cant believe Roland put a less then decent receiver in there speakers. So it could be that the transmitter on my Asus motherboard is just not so great.

If I can find it in myself to disconnect my dac and move it to my pc (or the other way around) I will test if my dac is able to receive the 192Khz.
