No audio through display

i connected my pc to my asus PG258QR via hdmi i could get audio but i couldnt get above 60 hz so i used the displayport which gave me 144 hz but there is no audio from the monitor speakers

Did you check any windows/app setting that could be the problem?

If so, does the screen have any menu where you can navigate through settings?

Make sure your playback device is set to be over DisplayPort if your system allows. Some don't support Audio over DisplayPort even though the capability is in the DP spec.

Does that monitor even have speakers?

In the windows control panel sound icon (the thing on the bottom right of your screen) there should be different options for sound, choose whichever one is the monitor and check back

But judging from the specs page, no it doesn't. https://www.asus.com/uk/Monitors/ROG-SWIFT-PG258Q/specifications/

There's no R on that model, but according to the asus site, there is no model with an R on the end.

OP said he had a PG258QR though, which is a real model (refrenced in asus docs), but I cant find a product page anywhere. @desperate wannabe pc gamer where did you get your monitor?

Ok that's a pg278qr not a pg258qr, and that still doesn't have built in speakers.
