Different ram compatability

Hello, I just got a 2 GB stick of DDR2-800 for free and I was wandering: Will it work in combination with 667 MHz RAM I already have, provided I downclock this stick to 667 MHz?

It should work just fine. They will simply run at the lowest common frequency, so in your case that would be 667 MHz,

If you put both in the same machine it *should* automatically under-clock the higher ram to match the lower speed.

Thanks, I was afraid it would blow the lower speed ram or sth.

That would actually be quite awesome to witness :-D

However, I can assure you that (provided that the RAM, motherboard, etc. are working properly) you won’t see any spectacular explosions ;-)

Alright, no crashes so I'll call this a success. The new ram even allows tighter timings than the 667 one at the same speed.
