I just graduated high school and as any responsible PC gamer would do I plan on blowing my graduation money on pc parts. I currently have a GTX 980TI running with an i7 4770k. I am using a 1080p 60 hz display. The idea is that I want to get a 1440p and 144hz monitor and get the i5 8440. What I'm essentially asking is would a GTX 980TI compiled with the i5 8440 be enough horsepower to run a 1440p and 144 hz monitor? Also I would love suggestions for a motherboard to go with the i5 8440, some cheap (lol) ddr4 ram, and the best 1440p 144hz monitors out there right now. I know it's asking a lot but please help lol.

all you need is a new monitor and later a GPU upgrade...your current CPU is just as good as the i5-8400...i know cause i use one and it's plenty.

My previous card was a 980ti and it was flawless for 1440p i was playing everything on high with 80 to 120FPS.

This is a kick ass 2560x1440 Gsync monitor for the price it's worth every penny:

Oh man I just looked at the benchmark comparisons for the 2 cpus and I didn't realize that the i7 4770k was still kicking ass lol. It helps that I have mine overclocked a bit too. I'll be sure to look into that monitor too.

yeah what you really need to drastically improve your gaming experience right now is a new monitor...in the future when you find you have to reduce your settings too much for your likings just sell the 980ti and buy a next gen high end card...get a Gsync monitor, it's really worth it!

No need to upgrade - That's still a kick-ass system - a 4770K is still an awesome gaming CPU and a 980 Ti = 1070. Buy another 980 Ti and SLI them if you want to upgrade your hardware, but a monitor upgrade is definitely in order. The Dell SD2417DG or SD2716DG are both great options for your system

i would really try to swing for the 27'' monitor though...the 24'' at 1440p is too small and it's a waste imo...things looks better and more impressive on a bigger screen :)

34'' ultrawide is the same height as a 27'' 16:9...but wider :)

they are a lot more expensive though, especially for a 100hz screen with Gsync...

Yep, $970 for mine. You could get 2 1/2 SD2716DG's for that.

eh yeah. Now Samsung has that 32/9 thing out so I expect we'll see some 3840x1080 monitors at Computex.

Only 1080p for $100 less than an SD2716DG on promo. Not worth it.

yeah, no...a few minutes ago you were going to waste 500$+ on a new intel platform, make yourself a favor and get yourself a modern 1440p Gsync monitor...your friends will not believe how lucky you are when they'll see that thing, and you'll be so glad you did spend that money on something that will serve you in an epic way for the next 5 years or more ;)

it's just worth it man.
