Modem "thermal throttle"?

Go to solution Solved by AskTJ,

Something like this. It is cheap, and should do a decent job. You can look into other options with bigger fans though.

My wifi has been acting up a lot recently. Like a lot.

In the past it maybe happens once a week, and I just simply turn off my modem, wait for like 10 minutes, then turn it back on.

Recently, that's been ramping up, escalating from once a week to multiple times a day, where it will even blip on and off.

I've attributed it to overheating, as I notice that my modem seems to be unbearably hot when the problems happen. I end up putting a flexible cold pack I have against the side of the modem to cool it down.

That being said, is "thermal throttling", or something similar, a thing for wifi modems? If so, what are possible problems (old hardware, need new software), and what are my options going forward?

Thanks in advance.

Hopefully buying a new modem isn't 100% necessary, but if so, I'm willing to go for it.

Routers are mini computers with their own processor, ram and motherboards. They also need cooling, like all computers. Try and get a small usb fan, and plug it into the back of the router, and direct it on top of the router, preferably into an air vent. This way, it shouldn't be thermal throttling again.

hi.
