Hi , so i made a post the other day about upgrading from my i5 7600k to the i7 8700k but i think i am better off going with ryzen. Should i save my money and get the ryzen 7 1700x instead of the 2700x? It would save me $90.

My current cpu is paired with a 1080ti (yea i know an i5 with a 1080ti) lol

Grab a 2700 and overclock

The 2000 series have made the 1000 series almost useless to buy from what I’ve heard, especially when it comes to over clocking ability

PC:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X | AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE | 32 GB RAM | Arch Linux

Laptop:

MacBook Pro 13" (2019) | Intel Core i5 8279U | 8 GB RAM | macOS

Server:

Intel Core i7 6700K | 16 GB RAM | 2 TB HDD | Debian Linux

Get the 2700x on x470, don't overclock it, and set your ram to D.O.C.P. in bios.

I have the x470 + 2700x, and in x264 I can stream at 1080p60 on medium cpu usage preset without dropping any frames in high motion high detail games.
You can also stream in 1600x900p60 on slow cpu usage preset without dropping frames in high detail high motion games.

If you have a good cooler you can enable precision boost overdrive in bios, and you will get some amazing performance... the 2700x overclocks itself LIVE based on temps and workload.

8CORE 16THREADS = Beast for streaming, Gamers Nexus did a comparison between it, and the 8700k; the 2700x murdered it in streaming performance.

You can mess with affinity/priority with the 8700k  but it's still not even close to the 2700x stock performance for streaming.
