I am new to this pc world and i am very much excited about it. After doing a lot of research and browsing I have learned a few things and I am happy about this, but, I am in a huge doubt on a topic.

I need help, which one is better i5 8400 or R5 1600 build?

Ryzen rose from its grave and is now much more better.

I am only looking forward to play games on it and do normal work (surfing, songs, storing images, movies, AND C++)

Please help me.

And also suggest a good MoBo(budget).

Thank You!

Have a great day !  (^^)

the choise for i5-8400 is more for gaming and other single/dual core workloads

Ryzen will have a advantage in multi-core workloads, but if you want to you can overclock it with a b350 motherboard.

I would go with a B350 for the ryzen, and a z370 for the intel

i agree. this has been a hot topic i see lately. If buying everything, mobo cpu ram atleast, the intel would save you some money, but do game better. If you went dollar for dollar what a decent amd 1600 would cost, youd get a great intel machine for that same price

I would rather choose a z370 so you can upgrade to a better 8 or 9 series chip later

The i5 works well with lower clocked ram speeds than the Ryzen cpu's, which likes 3000MHz or more. You can save money on ram with the i5 as it doesn't need to be clocked as high as Ryzen needs.

You can save about 5%, at most, on the differential between the memory costs. That's why we're normally recommending a Z-series board with the i5-8400. You can get 3200 for almost the same price as 2666.

As to the topic starter, how much Compiling are you doing? If there's enough, you'll want the Ryzen. Gaming will be functionally the same, unless you toss a 1080 or 1080 Ti in there. However, if you're doing encode or compiling tasks, those 6 more threads really matter.

not looking forward to multithreaded works.. only basic programming like C++ and Python but overall i want a gaming one and i cant spend on a 1080 or 1070 but i was thinking about a 1050ti 4gb

So any of the 6 core parts, from either company, will suit you fine.

2666 or 3200 are almost identical prices, and all GPUs respond better to faster memory. Normally in better Minimums than average FPS, though. (And it's more Game Engine dependent.) Hence the Z-series for Intel suggestion, even with an 8400.

If you can squeeze in a 1060, that'd probably be for the better.
