Google Chrome is very laggy

Ashleyyyy

ok, this needs a little backstory.

my main gpu is a GTX 1050. I have a triple monitor setup, and I often like to watch youtube video's in the background when I game. this reduces fps obviously, so I wanted to fix that.

I had an AMD RX460 laying around and wanted to use that, but I didn't have another pci-e x16 slot free. so I bought one of those 1x to 16x adaptors.

I plugged it all in and my pc booted, so I installed the drivers for the card and it works. only one weird issue.

Google Chrome is very laggy when dragging it between monitors, and watching youtube in chrome also lags a bunch and spikes the usage of the rx 460 to 70/80%.

I know the card isn't bottlenecked, because I can easely get 60+ fps in Overwatch using it. and watching youtube in Edge has none of these issues.

is it because i'm using both an nvidia and amd gpu…? I don't know...

any solutions?

disable hardware acceleration. Your CPUs have more than enough cores to brute force the process of decoding videos. Dont need two graphics cards even.

I disabled it, and now chrome no longer stutters when I move it between displays, but youtube is still lagging and it still uses about 50% of my gpu.

and for clarification I have added the second gpu to make it so I can game on the 1050 and watch youtube on another display without impacting fps because as you said my cpu's are overkill for gaming anyway, and youtube won't affect cpu performance that much.

Did you reboot your PC? It's possible the Nvidia driver and AMD driver are fighting for the task of decoding videos still.

I dont think you get what I meant. With hardware acceleration disabled, Chrome is supposed to not use any GPU computing and only rely on CPU power. In this case, you can watch videos with while keeping all the frame rates in games.

really? well i also do other stuff on those displays, not just chrome, so.. but if it helps i'll keep it this way.

but i've added the 2nd card now anyway, might as well use it.
