I'm planning on building a cheap secondary PC and I want to try AMD for the first time. I'm planning on going with the Ryzen 3 2200G because it has integrated graphics and I don't plan on running a graphics card on this PC.

What I'm worried about is that I've heard that some B350 motherboards require a BIOS update to function with the new Ryzen CPUs. How do I ensure I get a mobo that'll function out of the box with the CPU I picked? And if I do get a motherboard that requires a BIOS update will I even be able to get into BIOS without the CPU? Or will I have to find another AM4 socket CPU first to use to update the bios and then slot in the Ryzen 3 2200G?

Current build plan:

Ryzen 3 2200G
Asus Prime B350-M

Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR4

WD BLack 256GB NVME SSD
Corsair CX 450W

You have to contact the seller and ask them if the BIOS is up-to-date.

I'm planning on buying this entirely on Amazon. How does one contact the seller if it's officially from the Asus seller on Amazon?

I was going to add that it becomes difficult if you are buying off of Amazon... I would say that it's next to impossible. Your best bet is buying it off a third-party seller that is using Amazon marketplace. You can contact them by going on their profile (but they won't have stuff such as one day delivery).

You can try to get the motherboard, if it does not boot just return it to Amazon and look elsewhere... Retailers update the BIOS for you.

Go for the ASrock pro 4, usually the best value board, most of the boards should be updated by now.

Make sure to get 2800mhz RAM or better

no reason to go NVME unless you already have it or it's pretty cheap

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I'm just going to be using this PC purely for web browsing and backup PC incase anything happens with my main rig, so what if I just go down tot he A8-9600? It surely should have no BIOS update required?

100% not worth getting anything below the R3 2200G

Build something like this....

If u have a microcenter nearby, then get their combo deals....they usually do bios upgrades for free if u get the combo deals....
