im playing the first one and when i click new game 2 game options apear one being "the witcher" the other being "New adventure" what's the difference and witch one should i pick

"New Adventure" seems to be stories that revolve around characters inside The Witcher world meanwhile "The Witcher" story revolves around Geralt of Rivea and is what is considered the main story of the franchise.

 

"The Witcher" option is the main story in which is followed by the Witcher 2 and soon to be Witcher 3.

That is not exactly right.

Basically there is "The Witcher" option is the main story, which is the original, witcher 1 storyline, and the other is extra content that was added to the enhanced edition. It includes 2 new voiced adventures made by our favorite CdProject RED, and you can also download community made adventures and play them, which are most likely not voice acted (but there is a christmas based one if I remember correctly ).
