I've had a Dell Inspiron 5577 for two months now, but it only has 8GB RAM and the games stutter badly.

I have a friend who had a 8GB Kingston's stick which I popped in my system hoping to get 16GB total ram, but I'm getting only 11.9GB RAM. This has created a problem and now I'm afraid to buy any other stick in the market, since the RAM that I wanna buy (the Micron one) is not available in shops or online stores. The gamplay has become smoother anyways.

Things I've tried:
1.Restting CMOS
2.MSCONFIG has no max value set

3.Switching the slots

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Attached are the screenshots of CPUz and Task manager showing only 12GB available RAM.

The Kingston stick he gave you literally is just 4GB. I checked the part number, so it's not even that it's misreporting the capacity - he just gave you a 4GB stick.

Check with your friend in case he gave you the wrong one. Hopefully he didn't charge you for it.

It matches up perfectly with the specs in Task Manager.

You are missing out on dual channel, and not 16GB of ram.

Ask your friend, "WTF BRO".

Guys, you both are right. I have to just confirm now by checking once again.

And yeah, I didn't pay for it lol.
