How does screen recording software work?

I have always wondered this and can’t seem to find the answer online. If anyone knows how they work then let my know.

Depends on if your using software or Capture Card. If your using software it pipes the input to your screen through the software and then renders it as an MP4 or like format. Capture card same but it is piped through the capture card and then rendered using software.
