Hey guys,

Just wondering as the issues i've been having with my R9 290 are getting very annoying and frustrating, I've been getting Black/Blue/Redscreens with my card on stock, with the newest 13.12 drivers newly installed with a clean installation about what's actually causing them.

I've seen around that this is mainly with people who's cards have Elpida RAM modules, likewise, mine is the same, I was wondering if anyone knew which brand (if any) primarily use Hynix memory as I really don't want one with Elpida (yes I know i'm being fussy, and yes I know some peoples are fine with Elpida modules)?

The card is also being RMA'd for a full refund, so any help is appreciated.

Appreciate the help, thanks!

EDIT: I know i've already posted something similar before, just trying to get a variety of opinions on the matter

They don't use Hynix memory any-more, that was only in a select few releases/batches, Chances are you got a faulty batch, RMA it and request a replacement, that should fix the issue.

Who was the retailer?

I know there was some people also had some problems  with the VRM's failing as well, it could be that causing the failure, personally I think I would just get the cash back and wait for a non reference cooled one

It's been doing it since I first got it, but was told by AMD that it would be fixed by a driver (which it wasn't). Also to note, The card has VERY bad coil whine, audible over my headset with music

RMA the card and get a replacement, not a refund, if you get a refund you will not be able to pick up a card again due to the increased costs.

Seriously you should wait with buying any R9 290.

They have become very rare on the market so they are now around 500$

(so +100-120$)

Save your money and wait until they become cheaper again.

Or:

500$ is also the price for the GTX780 which (once OCed beats the R9 290)

Most places here in the UK actually have them in stock, but they're around £330 ($540USD), but they haven't changed in price at all since release.

Unfortunately, Ebuyer don't stock it anymore so I can only get a refund, but i've seem them in stock in quite a few place, I don't mind paying £30-40 (I paid £310 originally) more, Overclockers.co.uk have some instock for about £330, so i'll probably get one of them
