I was wondering if i could put amd and nvidia gpu's in the same system??

Yes you can mix and match gpu's there will be no boost in games and will give you no specail features if for example your primary is a AMD and you throw an Nvidia card in your not going to get physX

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i Chassis/Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2  Motherboard: Asus Z87-Deluxe RAM:  Team Vulcan 2x4Gb(2133Mhz)  Video Card: Asus 7970 Direct CU II Custom Rom (150% Power, 1100 core 6Ghz Memory)  Power Supply: Fractal Integra R2 750 Watt  Keyboard: Cooler Master Quick Fire Rapid (MX Blue Switches)  MouseCorsair M90 Storage: SX900 128Gb, Seagate 1TB 7200RPM, WD Green 1TB 7200RPM   MY OLD BUILDLOG

You can run more then one, for example I used to run a 5450 to run extra monitors to free up ram on my 550ti it increased fps but only because the game could get more memory on my 550ti but there is no point in having more then one

Edit That was a 1Gb card and was maxing the VRAM with two monitors plugged in to it and trying to run BF3
