Ryzen supports memory speed up to like 4666MHz but anything over 2666 or 2400, whatever the default is, is considered an overclock.

It was for the original launch when there weren't a lot of tested and compatible memory kits out there to give people a "hey this is 100% going to work" feeling.

Zen+ should have a much larger list of supported memory.


Even then, if you do your research, it's not hard to find sanctioned kits.
