Hello I'm reasonably new here and looking to build a workstation PC for general multitasking use as well as some light video, photo editing + media streaming in 1080p with Plex.

This is the first time I have built a PC from scratch so go easy on me :D

it is really important to me that this build is quiet though some noise from the HDD is okay because it wont be running constantly.

I plan on running one 4k monitor but adding another down the track is a possibility.

My max budget is around $2000 AUS. I know this could be overkill but I would like to use up my budget.

Here's what I came up with for parts although I am unsure on these.

(In Australian dollars)

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K ($498.00)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! - Dark Rock 3 ($89.00)
Motherboard: MSI - Z370-A PRO ATX LGA1151 ($175.00)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  ($277.00)
Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($73.00)
Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB ARMOR OC Video Card  ($479.00)
Case: be quiet! - Silent Base 800 (Orange) ATX Mid Tower Case ($169.00)
Power Supply: Corsair - RMx 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($146.00)

Total: $1906.00 AUS

How do these parts look for what I have described?

Thanks in advance.

You might consider a smaller and less expensive case.

SeaSonic FOCUS Plus 550 Gold is a bit less expensive and equally good. SeaSonic SSR-550FM is also a good choice.

If you are not planning to overclock, get the i7-8700 and an H370 or B360 motherboard. Use the stock cooler or something like CRYORIG H7.

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to use that case for the sound dampening and quiet included fans.

As for the cpu I thought the difference in clock speed justified the 8700k. Is there much difference when not over clocking the cpu?

The Pure Base 600 is also a "quiet" case. You might also check out the Fractal Design Define C and Corsair Carbide 400Q.

There is not that much of a difference between an i7-8700 and i7-8700K running at stock speeds. The turbo frequencies are just 100MHz more on the i7-8700K. So the i7-8700K is a bit faster, but the few % difference hardly seem worth the ~AU$80 + cpu cooler cost premium.
