CPU suddenly getting very hot

I came back from vacation a bit ago and my cpu is getting to 100C and thermal throttling now. I've checked all my connections and reapplied thermal paste and I can't seem to figure out why it's getting so hot all of a sudden. 

I've ordered a new heatsink to see if that fixes it but if that isn't the problem I'm not sure what else it could be. Any help is appreciated!

hi just some standard questions, what cpu is it, what cooler do you have and what temps were you getting before? your cooler fan is spinning right?
