So I connected a pair of headphones to my computer to use as only a mic input.

I don't have a port which allows me to use both mic and headphones at the same port, thus I connected my MAIN pair as my headphones input, and some other headphones lying around as a mic input.

Problem is that when I connected these, "Some other pair of headphones" as a mic, the mic is within the earbud part, and not in the little controller part down below...this gives me significantly less audio output from the mic.

When I connect these to another computer or PS4 the mic audio isn't taken from the earbud part.

HOW CAN I FIX THIS! Or is it even a thing to fix?

My System Spec:

CPU- Intel Pentium G3258 4.0 GHz Overclocked

GPU- Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 MSI Gaming 2G

HDD- 2TB WD

RAM- 8GB Corsair Vengeance

Motherboard- ASUS H81M-C

Do the earbuds use a 4 pole audio jack like this?

If it does then that could be your problem. Your mic input is most likely only 3 pole or even 2 pole, meaning it expects the microphone to be on the second first or second pole, not the 3rd as it would be.

Here is an image below of what your earphone connector would be. The first pole is for the left channel, second pole is for the right channel, and the third pole is for the mic.

Your mic input on your motherboard is designed for dedicated mics, where there isn't a line output. So the mic input would be one the first pole, the tip.

This means that your motherboard's mic input is attached to the left channel of the earphones, not what you want.

You would need an adaptor like this https://amzn.to/2vZiAlf

Oh thanx very much for that! I didn't know a lot of that about headphones, this helps a lot in so many ways!

Your reply is very much appreciated SIR!

Honestly I had no idea that my earbuds were even capable of mic output :)

I'm not sure that I fully understood your original question, so I'm glad that my answer helped you. If you don't get it working then you can message me and I'll give you some more help if you can't get it working.

I used your suggestion to connect a different pair of headphones with different than 4 poles, these went perfectly in with better and more appropriate mic output.

I'll be sure to contact you if i ever need help regarding Audio devices, you seem to know alot!
