CSGO kills my drivers

Go to solution Solved by lythiumxd,

Well, nothing seems to have fixed it, guess ill just have to get a gpu.

So like 2 or so years ago i got a lil deal for 25$, a crt, a mouse and keyboard, intel pentium dual core e5300 2.6ghz, q45 chipset(x4500 gma) 2gb ram(now 4) and a 160gb hdd.

First thing i did on it was format etc. and i downloaded steam to see how some games would run. I tested hl2, worked well, portal 2, worked but had to turn settings down to get playable experience, and later i tested CSGO, which worked on 2 gb ram, windows 7 and iGPU. Now since my main laptop gave up, i switched to the pc, and im happy. Ive been on this PC comfortably for almost 5 months and i am satisfied. Now i used the pc for light old games, and browsing web etc. I downloaded csgo again to give it a shot and it wouldnt run. ram usage was pinned to top, swapping insanely and when map loaded offline with no bots, it went black screen and if i waited long enough a BSOD. I tried Lubuntu which when i loaded a MAP, which it did with no problems with, ram went up to 1800ish MB. Now i was sure the ram was issue so i slotted in 2 more gigabytes of ram but it didnt fix it, except for less swapping overall. While loading a map my ram usage from csgo goes up to 940mb and when black screen happens, i gotta ctrl alt del to quit csgo before i bsod and in TM i see ram usage around 850mb and staying there, not moving a single kilobyte. I tried OEM(Fujitsu) drivers from 2009 and 2012, aswell as intels latest drivers for the chipset(include video drivers) and i tried even modded PHDGD drivers but to no avail. I ran game on Lubuntu at like 15ish fps in competitive, but there are many annoyances with linux csgo like lower fps, rubber band movement(hard to explain, but one sec u move fast, other slow, same for shooting, its like retardedly screwed up frame times) and just linux itself isnt my type of OS. I set the game in windowed mode and when the map finshed loading black screen flashed and showed message like Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered or similar to that. Any help would be appriciated as I could run game on windows, and DEFINATELY can on linux. Thanks and sorry for this sorta long post :). If you need more info, ill gladly provide it ;)

iGPU is the issue there. It doesn't have enough RAM dedicated for use. Easiest fix would be getting some used GPU, 750Ti at most as newer will be bottlenecked hard by CPU. Also quad core would help, but I don't see that such issue with CSGO.

@gnomik my gpu is intel gma x4500

@LoGiCalDrm I have 4gb now, i can run game in linux man, but just bad, my usage with ram now doesnt surpass 3 gb when launching game, I installed windows10 like 30 mins ago and installed PHDGD(as no official drivers for win10 for the igpu) and im downloading csgo ATM... I'll keep you updated in like 2 hours once it downloads as my net is, well, potato :D

But how much RAM you have given to iGPU? I bet its 512mb which its by default. Go into BIOS and give it like 1gb.

@LoGiCalDrm i dont think thers a option in my bios for it as its oem pc like i said, but ill check, anyway, this is what win10 says

That 128MB is where your issues come from. Both lack of fps and BSODs. Video memory runs out and in Windows result is BSOD. In Linux the system handles things differently so instead of making system crash, it just moves resources around to keep everything running.

Have you looked around in BIOS? Never know what settings are available before you look. But overall this would be fixed with dedicated GPU. Those with 1gb or under VRAM are still at decent pricing as they aren't very much interest for miners.

@LoGiCalDrm Well, once it uses up those 128 megs, shouldnt it use ram as vram, instead of killing drivers, i mean it worked before, btw with default driver it shows as 64mb vram, but with phdgd shows 128, anyway, even after switching the vram to maxdvmt it still shows 128mb

It should. But we are talking about hardware which doesn't have supported drivers. I don't know more, sorry. I will just keep my main recommendation of getting dedicated GPU there. iGPUs were shit before Core i -series. Which was one of the reasons why I demanded that my previous laptop had dedicated GPU so I could play BF2 with it.
