I want a pair of seinheiser hd 600s but, don't know which dac to purchase with them or even what software to look at. anny suggestions?

Plenty of options, @mr anderson ! That pair of HD600 are a dandy pair of cans (they’re about $700-800 CDN here in Toronto [I’m saving a chunk of cash buying the MassdropHDxx]). Questions for you:

1. Your audio source (PC, iDevice, game console, radio,...).

2. Portable or desktop?

3. Budget? Are you buying in the USA, Asia, or Europe?

4. The DAC will convert your digital files to an analog signal. You will also need an amp. So...

Modular DAC (and headphone amplifier [headamp]) or All-in-one?

5. Upgradable or plug-n-play?

6. What is your “listening profile”? Mostly gaming... screamo... R&B... instrumental... cookie monster goth?  :-)

Answer #1-6, and a snotload of options are possible. Looking forward to your responses (a helluva lot more fun than marking science tests).

VLC is a great media player (shareware model). HTG recommends it.

Foobar2000. I use it to rip CDs. Pleasant default interface. It also has many tweakable settings (I like its solution to “the loudness war”) for playback.

These are my 2 favourite media software programs. My 2 cents...
